You've Been Served

This was a midterm project made intermittently from January 27th to March 7th. It takes about 7 and a half minutes to beat, longer or shorter depending on how well you play.

Your job is to fly to the top of an illegally tall skyscraper to serve its owner papers informing him that he is being sued by the city. Before you can do that, you'll be fighting an army of his security drones.

The main gimmick is the set of combo abilities provided to you. After building your charge meter, you can take a risk and quickly use the movement keys to input a particular combo (all three are shown in the HUD), then press your ability key to confirm and activate a deadly power.

• QUICK BEAM - A cheap and quick laser blast to melt anything within a cone of your view.
• DRONE HIJACK - The nearest enemy drone is hacked, converted to your side, and has its health and fire rate overclocked. 
• BULLET REFLECT - All bullets on screen are made safe for the player, stopped in place... and then launched back in the direction they came from to destroy your enemies.

Each of these abilities costs half the maximum charge (4 levels), and batteries are gratuitously dropped. Go nuts. 

The risk of sacrificing your movement to use abilities is balanced out by the fact that you can't actually lose. Taking damage sends you flying back down, forcing you to fly back up again and resulting in a worse time and rank by the end of the level.

Controls:

This game technically has controller support, but movement combos don't work on a joystick and are unpleasant on a directional pad.
