It's out!

The game's finished! I'm proud of my work on this, it's just about a month of work between classes for a generously open-ended midterm project. The major gimmick is that you use your movement keys to perform combo-specific abilities. It's somewhere around 7 to 12 minutes long depending on how many hits you take.

It's called You've Been Served because you play as a process server trying to notify a defendant he is being sued and "Service of Process" sounded too cool for something so quick and silly.

I didn't want to do any other homework because I was having too much fun on this... Some dev anecdotes:

  • The briefcase UI frame is a picture taken and barely edited by me, I carry my laptop around in that and just placed it on top of an art portfolio bag. The only edits made to the picture are a bit of perspective correction and the hole in the middle.
  • I had the whole gameplay design figured out the moment I started programming and surprisingly didn't deviate. The hijack ability came first and sold me on making the game, the reflect ability came last and is easily my favorite.
  • Every single visual asset was godot.svg until 2/3 into the project, except for an early version of the UI frame which was completely flat and bright purple and terrible until I took the briefcase picture two days ago. Evidence of this survives on my Bluesky.

This would be a great candidate for a web build but I haven't done that yet and I might not bother because I'm ready to take it easy. Download it yourself!
